Ray Berard is a Canadian born Kiwi author who immigrated to New Zealand in 1994 and is based in Christchurch. Inside the Black horse is his debut novel, based off a diary he kept during his years working South Auckland and the Bay of Plenty . Published in 2015, Inside the Black Horse received rave reviews. Picked as one of the top novels for 2015 by the New Zealand Listener and winner of the Ngaio Marsh Debut Novel award for 2016. It was also long listed for the Dublin international literary award for 2016.
