The cry of the Kuaka

In a modern world where blood and boundary no longer define identity, how do you find belonging and self?

The Kuaka is a special bird, a bird without boundary or home. Migrating vast distances between Berengia and New Zealand via Asia, Maori and Koreans believe the Kuaka is a messenger, a bringer of luck.

The cry of the Kuaka is an epic tale of three generations of Korean women struggling to find peace, love and identity. Life has always been hard for Korean women; ancient Confucian values and customs dictating their role in society. Battling through war and discrimination, these women endure and ultimately overcome adversity to find happiness and their place in the modern world.

This story follows the lives of these extraordinary women and the men who touch their hearts, two of them New Zealanders. The first, a Japanese Prisoner of War: the second, a rugged hunter. A man still coming to terms with his own identity.

From rural Korea to the brothels and POW camps of Yokohama, to the United States and the Southern Alps of NZ; then ultimately climaxing at Cape Reinga, this is a story of endurance, honour and shame. Set against the Japanese annexation of Korea, WW2 and the Korean War, it is a story of the modern world: a world without boundary, a world where culture and identity confuse and collide.

Baikonur Bitch

Baikonur Bitch is an eclectic collation of Flash and micro-fiction, dreamt up by a restless mind, from a man who should have better things to do.

From Pope John Paul the 1st to a crime-solving canine: from an Aids infected Vampire to a nasty piece of Carrot Cake. Baikonur Bitch is a journey full of insidious nonsense, driven by an overactive imagination and a need to create more space in a head full of clutter.

Return of the Water Deer

Love or country?

A choice three men must make. One man chooses love, another country. The third – chaos!

Kang Dae is a man trapped behind the communist curtain of North Korea. Two sworn enemies compete and try their best to deny his quest to reunite with the love of his life, Choon Hee; one man a dashing North Korean Officer, the other a South Korean Spy Handler with a murky and surprising past.

From New Zealand to North and South Korea, from Japan to Guadalcanal, Return of the Water Deer tells a story of Korea during the 20th century and the people who lived through it. It is a story of a simple man, confronted by extraordinarily complicated times.
