Sarah McDougall
Shit and Sugar is my first novel. An earlier draft three years ago was long listed in the Michael Gifkins Award.
I have written and produced six plays that have received professional productions. They are: Up the Duff, Bullies and Blake, Things I Hate About Mother, Hairway to Heaven, Moon at the Bottom of the Garden, and Slutty Ladies Garden Party.
I’ve written and performed comedy for Those Jammy Cows and created two books of word and image in collaboration with Ewan McDougall: On the Peak and Pearler.
I curated Art from The Sick Rose, a touring exhibition and Southern Wave for the University of Otago, writing the catalogue essays for these and for Too Much Monkey Business. I produced concerts in Otepoti and Auckland called Way to Paradise where composer Harold Anderson wrote a score in response to the painting of the same name by Ewan McDougall.
I gained an MFA Theatre Studies from Otago, trained and worked as a counsellor and am a Director of McDougall Art Ltd.
I am a feminist. I have a husband, three children and three grandchildren. I am interested in writing about the working class and the intergenerational wars within a family
