Sarah Johnson
Children's writer and professional freelance writer, Sarah Johnson, lives with her family at Whaingaroa Raglan on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand.
Sarah has published seven books for children, with more due for release in 2021.
- Enough: A story about community (PictureBook Publishing, 2021), with illustrations by Deborah Hinde
- The Garden's Secrets (Hamilton Gardens, 2020), with illustrations by Deborah Hinde; explores award-winning Hamilton Gardens and its many wonderous places
- Spaghetti Giraffe and the Egg of Courage (Flat Bed Press, 2017), with illustrations by Deborah Hinde; the second book in a trilogy involving the Spaghetti Giraffe and his quirky friends
- The Spaghetti Giraffe (Flat Bed Press, 2017), with illustrations by Deborah Hinde; received a Storylines Notable Book Award in 2018
- The Bold Ship Phenomenal (Flat Bed Press, 2015); was named as a Storylines Notable Book in 2017, shortlisted for the NZ Children's Book Awards 2016 in the junior fiction category, and shortlisted for the 2013 Kobo/NZ Authors E-publishing Prize.
- Wooden Arms (Scholastic NZ, 2012), with illustrations by Scott Tulloch, won the Storylines Joy Cowley Award in 2011, and is also available in te reo Maaori as Poupou Tauawhi (Scholastic NZ, 2012).
- Ella and Ob (Scholastic NZ, 2008), was shortlisted for the 2006 Tom Fitzgibbon Award.
Sarah also writes fiction and non-fiction stories, books and readers for children, on commission for the educational market, in New Zealand and overseas.
As a freelancer, Sarah provides professional writing and editing services for the local and central government, legal, financial, not-for-profit, health, energy and education sectors.
Sarah is available for readings, school visits and author talks.
