I’m an editor with twenty-five years of experience in the publishing industry. I work as an editor, copyeditor and proofreader with a diverse range of clients, from individual authors to renowned cultural institutions and established publishing houses. I love working alongside both published and emerging authors, helping them to find their own authentic style. I offer top-quality editing skills and a supportive editorial approach, with a high sensitivity to an author’s individual voice and style.
I'm a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (UK), so you can be confident that my skills are up-to-date and up to the highest international industry standards. I have a doctorate in English Literature from Oxford University, and worked at Oxford University Press, where I gained experience in editing and data collation. I also work as a mentor at various literary consultancies and writers' groups. I'm an experienced creative writing teacher for adults, teens, and children.
I was the judge for the Sunday Star Times short story competition, and have judged many writing group competitions. I also do manuscript assessment and reader reports, with the goal of publication, for agencies such as Cornerstones Literary Consultancy. I was the fiction editor for Takahe, and the literary editor for the Oxford Student newspaper.
I'm also an award-winning novelist, short story writer, and poet. Publishers include Penguin, Random House, Virago, and Auckland University Press. Scholarships include the Burns Fellowship, the Sargeson Residency, the Berlin Writer's Residency and the Ursula Bethell Residency in Creative Writing at the University of Canterbury. I've written regular columns and articles for newspapers and magazines such as the Press, the Sunday Star Times, the Listener, Metro and Next.
I'm known in the industry and in the literary world for my precision, efficiency, and reliability, and I bring a friendly, supportive approach to all collaborative projects. Please get in touch with me to see how I can help bring your current writing project to fruition!
