Stella Peg Carruthers

Stella Peg Carruthers is a freelance writer who works to communicate ideas about creative living and support actions towards environmental sustainability. She creates work across a broad range of genres and contexts to express her vision for a better world.

She is currently working on her debut novel, a YA family-themed story that explores the power of literature to transform lives. She is also working on a collection of poems about self-image, fashion, and feeling beautiful both inside and out.

As a poet, Stella's love of lyrical language conveys one of her key themes. That of creativity as a transformative and healing force. She sees her figurative language as placing her writing in the context of wider artistic practice. Stella draws on her art history degree in the way she likes to try to paint pictures with words.

Her fiction often explores mental health contexts and the power of creativity as a transformative force. Her own lived experience informs these stories. Stella also celebrates the small gratitudes of the domestic daily, particularly in her short fiction. An underlying thread of ecological awareness is present in much of her creative work.

This idea of writing for a more sustainable world is an area Stella is increasingly focusing her attention on. Whether it be through protest poems, marketing materials for NGO’s or social media posts to promote social justice issues, Stella lives her belief that words can change the world.
