I come from a science background, with experience in research, research management, and data analytics. I have substantial experience in science and business writing, through writing research reports and funding applications, including some of significant size (30,000 words). While I have dabbled in creative writing since I was a teenager, it wasn’t until I took an introductory creative writing course in Christchurch in early 2022, that I started dedicating more time to it. Since then I have worked on over twenty short projects, experimenting with a range of different formats (including poetry, flash fiction, and short stories), and a range of different genres (such as fiction, sci-fi, and creative nonfiction). In the last year I also submitted a few of my pieces to writing competitions. I have been working on my current project for about 18 months, when it began life as a poem, before becoming a short story, and then spinning into a full novel.
