Susanna Elliffe

Kia ora tātou,

I'm an emerging writer based in Ōamaru, with a passion for literary experimentation and a particular interest in experimental fiction and linguistic deviation. I am currently completing a Master’s in Creative Writing, where my focus lies in pushing the boundaries of narrative form.

My short story manuscript Pilgrimage of the Animals was shortlisted for the Laura Solomon Cuba Press Prize in 2023, and my latest manuscript, Relic Party, has also been shortlisted for the 2025 prize.

My work has received recognition across several national and international competitions. I was twice named runner-up in the Sunday Star-Times Short Story Awards—in 2019 for When I See Fragile Things, and in 2020 for She Who Is. My story Buried Unburied was shortlisted for the 2022 Bridport Prize, and Outside the City placed in the top seven percent of entries for the 2023 competition. I also received Highly Commended mentions for White Noise Machines in the 2019 Sargeson Prize, and for No More Elephants in the 2021 Landfall Essay Competition—the latter of which was published in Strong Words Volume 3.
