Mary Willow
Hello NZSA members!
Thank you for the warm welcome. This is my first book.
For 35 years I worked as a nurse, midwife and early childhood teacher. Then in 2007 I founded a parent mentoring service: Plum Parenting, (www.plumparenting.com) based in Wellington. After years of requests from parents and teachers to write a book containing the highly successful concepts and methods I use, my book is now written and ready for publication.
To give an indication of the urgent need for this method which parents say is 'life-changing', I have had a 6-12 month waiting list for the past 15 years with no advertising. Financial support was thankfully offered making it possible to dedicate 9 months to the writing and further time since to the editing process. The writing is now complete and with a small and wonderful team supporting me, we are currently seeking a publisher.
The interim title for my book is:
HOW TO RESET CHILDHOOD When It's Falling Apart (and how to make it right from the start)
This book is a much-needed to partner to the current call for a childhood based more on play, whole-child experience and healthy social interaction, (e.g. Jonathon Haidt's work) and less on screens and smart phones in particular. This may be all very well, but how will parents be able to take charge of screens when their children are already hardwired to dependency on them? How do you take the drug away from the addict? My book will show what to do to free the children, and why it works. It will set parents up for the entire parenting journey ahead.
