Keith Woodley is the full-time manager of the Pūkorokoro Shorebird Centre, on the Firth of Thames.

An interest in art led to birds as subject, which led to an interest in birds for their own sake. Born again as a birder, he has been manager of the Shorebird Centre since 1993.   There he has hosted thousands of people and given hundreds of talks about shorebirds and  migration; he has fostered an intense knowledge of the East Asian-Australasian shorebird migration flyway, and visited key sites in Australia, Alaska, China, Indonesia, South Korea, North Korea and Taiwan.

He is the author of Godwits- Long-haul Champions (2009) , Shorebirds of New Zealand- Sharing the Margins (2012) and In Pursuit of Champions-the inspiring story of Pukorokoro Miranda Shorebird Centre (2022)

When the last copies of the 3rd printing of Godwits: long-haul champions sold late last year, a 4th printing with a few updates was considered. But such is the huge amount of new information about these amazing birds since 2009, this idea was quickly abandoned. He is currently working on a completely revised and updated edition of the book.
