Call out for Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities

IBBY (International Board on Books for Young People) is calling for nomination of titles for their 2023 Outstanding Books for Young People with Disabilities.

We want to identify well-written and illustrated books, published in 2018  or later, for and about young people with different abilities, presented with dignity, emphasising the person rather than the disability itself. Under our criteria, physical health issues or illnesses are not about the disability experience unless those issues lead to chronic problems for the protagonist.

The preparation of the book list and exhibition with its accompanying annotated catalogue will be carried out under the auspices of the IBBY Collection for Young People with Disabilities, based at the Toronto Public Library. We plan to choose 40 Outstanding Books. Travelling exhibitions of the selected books will be managed by the IBBY Secretariat in Basel, Switzerland.
