The judging was carried out by the entire team at Booksellers NZ. It was a very close competition with the top contenders barely separable, as each had put a lot of effort and thought into unique, quirky, fun, engaging and community spirited events and celebrations. The emphasis was not on size of events/celebrations but how well you reflected your place in your community.
Ultimately a winner was selected and we would like to share that Carole and team jumped on the NZ Bookshop Day idea from concept, clearly embraced their own uniqueness, organized in advance and promoted through their customer networks and other media. They also ran a month-long competition and offered a full day’s program on the day itself. They celebrated great books and writers, applied teaser specials on targeted books, involved authors, publishers and their customers and ended the day with a customer party to reveal the results of the 50/50 Women’s Writers Survey.
