Auckland Branch End of Year Event

Christmas Raffle, Graeme Lay Short Story Competition Announcement + Author Rose Carlyle!

On 4 December the Auckland Branch will be holding our end of year event. Due to Covid-19 uncertainties we have taken our famous fundraising auction and turned it into a raffle (it will be drawn and given away no matter what!).

NZSA Auckland Branch
Friday 4 December at 6.15 pm
room 1211, level 12, AUT Tower,
Cnr of Rutland and Wakefield St, City Central

Two Gift Baskets to Win

Each includes literary items of interest such as new NZ books and letterhead poem prints (beautifully crafted and perfect for framing). They have Christmas treats such as a bottle of bubbles and handcrafted Christmas cakes. Each also includes some NZ treasures such as a piece of collectable Crown Lynn pottery in each: one even has an original painting by renowned NZ poet, Kevin Ireland!

Tickets will cost $5, bring money on the night or buy in advance – simply email us how many tickets you would like. Please note: non-members may buy tickets so let your friend and family know. However, the winner must pick up the gift basket from Auckland within a week of winning.

This is a major fundraiser for the year and will help us fund ongoing events – such as inviting internationally published author Rose Carlyle to speak to us!

Rose Carlyle

Rose Carlyle is the author of The Girl in the Mirror. It is her debut novel and was released only this year, however the screen rights have already been snapped up by Hollywood and the book has been published in Australia, New Zealand, USA, and Canada (it will also be released in the UK next year).

She’ll be speaking with us about this success and what you can learn from her experience!

The Graeme Lay Short Story Competition winners have been decided!

Graeme will be presenting first, second and third prizes at the Christmas event and the winning entry will be read. Thank you to all who took the time to enter.

Drinks and supper will be provided but you are also encouraged to bring something to share. Koha appreciated.

Our venue is room 1211, level 12, AUT Tower, Cnr of Rutland and Wakefield St, City Central. We acknowledge the venue sponsorship of the Masters in Creative Writing at The Centre for Creative Writing, AUT. There is street parking handy as well as the Civic Centre car park; the Victoria St Carpark is also not too far away. The venue is within easy walking distance for those using public transport.

Final Note: The Auckland Branch works to create meetings which are inclusive and welcoming. The meetings aim to be a great introduction to NZSA for new members as well as a place of community for all. For this reason:

  • no new business is added to the agenda on the night.
  • as always, all members are expected to act in a professional, appropriate manner.

Thank you from all members.
