DeRay Mckesson: The Other Side of Freedom

This is an unmissable opportunity to hear from one of the world’s leading civil rights activists in conversation with Action Station’s Laura O’Connell Rapira.

In his book, On the Other Side of Freedom, Black Lives Matter activist DeRay Mckesson gives an extraordinary, personal insight into the power of the imagination and what it takes to start a movement to overturn systems of injustice and make way for true freedom.

Through his own experiences, study and convictions, Mckesson puts forward ways we can break down the systems that perpetuate racism, and places emphasis on the essential work of the imagination: the most powerful tool for innovation if we use it well enough.

DeRay Mckesson is a visionary. We recommend bringing secondary school-aged students to this event. DeRay’s life and work is hugely inspiring and will fuel the imaginations and voices who are bringing the future to today.

Presented in association with WORD Christchurch and TedX Christchurch.
Proudly supported by National Library of New Zealand and the Park Hotel.
