Michelle Elvy was the 2025 Auckland Council Artist in Residence at Barr Cottage in Huia, perched on the edge of the Manukau Harbour – only the fourth writer to have been selected for the residency. Her work gives a visual and textural component to her view over two months of this place, capturing the many hues of life in the Waitākere Ranges. The exhibit’s title ‘The Wild Edge’ examines the line between what is natural and what is intentionally preserved or adapted, and the spaces between creation and destruction of our natural world.
