In Conversation: Robert Glancy and Fiona Sussman

These two writers from the African continent are now living and writing on Auckland’s North Shore.

Robert Glancy was born in Zambia and raised in Malawi. At fourteen he moved from Africa to Edinburgh then went on to study history at Cambridge. He has recently been awarded the Grimshaw Sargeson Fellowship.

Robert’s latest novel Please Do Not Disturb is described as a gripping and beautifully observed novel of power, corruption and innocence.

Fiona Sussman grew up in a publisher’s home in South Africa and fell in love with language and the written word at an early age. This was during the apartheid era, and witnessing the brutal regime at work sensitised Fiona to the issues of injustice and racial prejudice.

Her novel The Last Time We Spoke is a dark tale that navigates the underbelly of urban New Zealand. It is also a very human story of hope and possibility.
