Nelson Live Poets usually meet on the third Tuesday of the month. Their next meeting will be on Tuesday 15 June at The Prince Albert, 113 Nile Street, Nelson. The featured poet will be Roger Lusby.
Roger is an award-winning poet, folk singer-songwriting balladeer, performer, environmentalist, creative music tutor, sound recording engineer and vintage car enthusiast.
Having lived in Appleby for 20 years, 15 of those spent building his house, Roger now devotes his time to many ‘Shed Projects’ in his former Hort Research Apple Packing shed, the size of which is the cause of much male shed-envy, and interspersed with performances of his original poems and songs. He is part of the Kiwiana singing quartet Rural Mail and has produced several CDs and children’s storybooks, as well as his own book of poetry.
In his limited spare time, he is part of the Banded Rail Recovery group, managing the trapping line in the Hoddy Park area on the Waimea Estuary.
Roger’s love of this country, its history and rural areas, is portrayed in his lyrics, mostly lighthearted, sometimes serious and thought-provoking, sometimes nostalgic and poignant and overridden with a sense of fun.
Doors open at 7 pm. Bring a poem to share or just enjoy the show. Singer songwriters are also welcome. To read, simply sign up on the night. Gold coin koha entry. For more information – contact Dylan Mackie at dmackie@mailbox. org
