As part of Word Christchurch, the Christchurch central library T?ranga will be hosting a Wikipedia edit-a-thon to improve the coverage of New Zealand writers. Because the volunteer editors who contribute to Wikipedia are mostly based in Europe or the USA, articles about our writers are often brief or nonexistent. This matters, because Wikipedia is the fifth-busiest website in the world, and one of the top results of any Google search. Anyone can edit Wikipedia, and the more New Zealanders we have collaborating on articles the better its coverage will be.
The all-day workshop will be run by NZ Wikipedian at Large Dr Mike Dickison, and will include training in Wikipedia editing for novices. Experienced Wikipedians will be on hand to assist.
