Screenwriting workshop with Tony Etchells

Tony Etchells will be holding a workshop on screenwriting on Saturday 28 November, 9 am – 12.30 pm, in the Constance Barnicoat Room, Richmond Library.

Since his first commission for the BBC’s medical drama Casualty, Tony Etchells has logged nearly two decades of practical experience as a full-time professional screenwriter for television. Cutting his teeth on the hit ITV cop show The Bill, and learning the ‘dark arts’ of soap on BBC’s EastEnders, he has worked across the full range of drama series and serials, from historical drama documentaries on Attila the Hun, to prime-time crime shows like Midsomer Murders, and TVNZ’s Shortland Street.

In this morning-long, hands-on workshop, Tony hopes to share some tricks of the screen trade, while shedding light on the power of stories which are thousands of years old. Whether you’re a novelist, a poet, or just a writer who happens to be curious, you’re sure to enjoy a morning spent building a modern drama, from a kit of parts stolen from antiquity.

Cost of the workshop: $8 for members of NZ Society of Authors, $10 for non-members. Mid-morning refreshments included. Booking not essential.
