The Text Prize for Young Adult and Children’s Writing – deadline

Attention, writers of Australia and New Zealand: there’s just one month to go before the 2020 Text Prize opens for submissions!

Full details and the entry form are here.

Submissions open 6 January and close 7 February, 2020.

The Text Prize – now in its thirteenth year – aims to discover great new books for young adults and children by Australian and New Zealand writers.  2020 will see the publication of the most recent winner, Loner by Georgina Young, but if you can’t wait that long to see what a Text Prize winner looks like, you can read last year’s winner: Nina Kenwood’s It Sounded Better in My Head, which features on several end-of-year ‘best of’ and recommended reading lists.

Awarded annually to the best manuscript written for young readers, the prize has unearthed extraordinary, multi-award-winning books and launched international publishing careers. Published and unpublished writers of all ages are eligible to enter with works of fiction or non-fiction for young adults or middle-grade readers.

The winner receives a publishing contract with Text and a $10,000 advance against royalties.

So, what are you waiting for? Finish off your Christmas shopping and pick up your pen, pencil, quill, stylus – whatever it is you use – and get writing.
