WebWorkshop with Melissa Addey

Melissa Addey – How to Make and Use Book Trailers

7pm to 9pm, Tues, 17 June

What can you use a book trailer for? A lot! From plotting to marketing, as well as author branding, a book trailer is a great way to engage your readers. This fun and practical session will show you how to develop your own good quality book trailers without overspending.

Melissa Addey, a fulltime self-published author, uses book trailers in lots of different ways – and found that paid advertising didn’t work until she started using videos rather than static images. Now she uses book trailers from the very beginning of plotting a book all the way through to launching a newly published book and to boost sales at any time.

Most authors don’t think they can make their own book trailers, but they’re missing out – the software is very easy to use and once you’ve added this skill to your marketing capabilities you’ll be able to use it frequently to excite your readers and have them clicking on that ‘buy now’ button!

Suitable for all levels, even if you’re working on your first manuscript, making a trailer may help your plot and for the more experienced authors, this is a great addition to your marketing efforts.

The session will cover:
The many ways you can use book trailers in your book marketing strategy.
Practicalities of how to make a book trailer: storytelling, sourcing images and music, easy to use software, length and quality, using social proof and the all-important final shot. You’ll leave inspired and with a practical list of resources and ideas to create your own book trailers as part of your book marketing plans. You’ll be shown plenty of examples of book trailers throughout the session, but if you want to take a sneak peek, pop over to www.MelissaAddey.com/books and explore: every book has a book trailer available on its individual page.

Melissa Addey writes richly researched historical fiction inspired by what she calls “the footnotes of history” – forgotten stories and intriguing lives from the past. Her novels span Ancient Rome, medieval Morocco, 18th-century China, and Regency England. She has a PhD in Creative Writing, was Writer in Residence at the British Library, and lives in London with her family. Discover her books (and get a free novella) at www.melissaaddey.com.

Fee: NZSA Members – $35. (Non-members – $75)
