Madison Hamill – Reconstructing Vividness: Working with lost memories in personal non-fiction
5pm to 7pm, Wed, 30 July
Memory is unreliable, sometimes incomplete and constantly reconstructed—but that’s what makes it such interesting material for storytelling. In this workshop, we’ll explore how to craft vivid and emotionally resonant scenes from unclear memories, confront memory gaps with creative framing, and discuss the ethics of digging up the past and how to differentiate truth from accuracy. This workshop is aimed at writers of personal non-fiction at all levels of experience.
Come prepared with a memory you want to turn into a scene or story (sharing this is voluntary).
Madison Hamill (she/her) is an author and editor based in Pōneke/Wellington, Aotearoa. Currently a creative writing PhD student, working on a novel at the International Institute of Modern Letters, Victoria University of Wellington.
Fee: NZSA Members – $35. (Non-members – $75)
