Friends of the Randell Cottage present two tours of Christchurch & Northland fundraiser

Two specially-tailored literature and history boutique tours have been developed for Friends and supporters of Randell Cottage: to Christchurch from 18 to 22 July and to Northland from 28 August to 1 September.

These tours are packed with rare chances to engage with renowned writers like Dame Fiona Kidman and Tina Makereti and to explore the settings of many NZ novels past and present.

They’re not-to-be-missed opportunities that are unlikely to be repeated a second time around with the same sought-after contributors.

In Christchurch, you’ll visit the homes of Dame Ngaio Marsh and Kate Sheppard, take a drive to historic Akaroa, meet writer and illustrator Gavin Bishop in the Turanga Library, enjoy a production in the new Court Theatre and have lunch at the Sign of the Takahe with Tina Makereti.

The Northland tour begins in Whangarei and takes in the Hundertwasser and Waipu Scottish Migration Museums before travelling through to Opononi and Russell with informed commentaries.  Dame Fiona Kidman herself will show you the way to Darwin Road and talk about the settings of her novels and memoirs, with a highlight being an historical fiction panel discussion with Fiona and Monty Soutar.

Those fortunate to secure places on these tours will experience something unique – as well as contributing towards the Friends’ fundraising for the future of Randell Cottage and its writers in residence.
