Born in Suffolk in 1934, Bernard Brown (ONZM) has been a law teacher for nearly sixty years in England, Singapore, and New Guinea (where he attracted an arrow-wound) and since 1962 at The University of Auckland. He has been active in PEN and the NZ Society of Authors’ affairs since 1970, is a Sargeson Trustee, and has written six books of stories and poems. Cocktails with Molotov and Tea with Mr Lee (Titus) is due early 2018.
With the death of Tony Wedgewood Benn, Bernard is the sole survivor of the 1945 British Labour Party Conference at Bournemouth. His mother, Beatrice, in her late nineties transitioned into a metaphor – Lone Grey: the oldest Girl Guide in the world, but never lived down her only son’s expulsion from the Wolf Cubs.
