A MESSAGE FROM VERB WELLINGTON
It’s a strange writing to you all in this new world we are all in. We hope this finds you well, safe and in good spirits.
Even while the creative landscape as we know it has radically shifted, none of our ambition has. In fact, I’d say that the current situation has only concentrated it. Creativity is needed now more than ever.
Our plans for 2020 and 2021 have had to morph. But we’ve been working hard to adjust and have come up with some exciting new projects to keep our work going to support the creative community that we love . . .
First up we’re thrilled to tell you that we’ll be publishing fresh new writing every month. We are paying artists to create new work that we will deliver to you. You can read April’s publications from writers Victor Rodger, essa may ranapiri and Sinead Overbye online now.
Second, we’re cooking up recovery events… We’ll be going back to gathering towards the end of 2020, and then have news about a Summer Fest in Feb 2020 … and the end of 2021 is going to be frankly, spectacular. We will keep you updated when we are safe to make announcements.
Finally, we are launching the Verb Community. If you believe in the power of creativity to inspire you then please join us. You’ll be part of a team supporting artists, making inspiring events, creating new artist residencies, publishing new writing, connecting Aotearoa with the world, and making sure that Wellington retains its creative wairua. There are lots of benefits too!
My special thanks to the wonderful, wonderful artist Jessica Thompson Carr (The Māori Mermaid) who has created the artwork above specially for us. Her work is full of aroha, connection and strength which are the values we care about most.
Here’s to a bold, bright future,
Claire Mabey, Verb Director |
