The New Zealand Society of Authors Te Puni Kaituhi o Aotearoa (NZSA) is seeking a Kaiwhakahaere Hōtaka for 20 hours per week for an initial 12-month contract, to work with the national office team to support new programmes and contribute to communications and administration.
In 2022 NZSA voted to create a 9th branch for Māori writers. NZSA has received funding from the Ministry of Culture and Heritage Cultural Regeneration Fund to establish that branch and new programmes for Māori writers. This role will stand up these programmes and support the NZSA Te Māngai Māori ki te Poari board representative and branch to collaborate across the sector supporting Māori writers and writing. Experience building relationships with stakeholders is an advantage. You will be well supported to achieve these key objectives within an infrastructure that holds NZSA’s existing programmes, professional development, membership services and communications.
For this role, you will require an understanding of writing in Aotearoa, especially a connection to the writing of Māori writers. Proficiency in Te Reo Māori and knowledge of tikanga would be useful but proficiency is not required to apply for the role. You will be someone who can plan and prioritise, is approachable, has good communication skills, and an eye for detail. Ideally, you will be fluent with Microsoft Office, have experience with WordPress websites (including WooCommerce) and online databases (CRM). The role will consist of:
- Event organisation and venue support to stand up the Māori branch.
- Administering new assessment, mentoring and PD programmes for Māori writers.
- Facilitating community learning programmes.
- Adding content to our website and preparing media releases.
- Supporting membership services.
- Generating social media content for online and in-person learning.
- Liaising with industry groups.
- Preparing funding applications for ongoing support for this mahi.
There will be a variety of tasks with this role and training will be provided. Flexible working conditions apply. A PC laptop running Windows 10 will be provided.
