NZ writers: ebook piracy website – sample TakeDown notice

The NZSA is deeply concerned about a website,, which makes available free copies of published books. Many Australian, English and NZ authors’ books are now or may be available for free download, particularly titles which are published internationally.

It appears that this website is hosted in the United States. If you find your book is available for free download on this site, we encourage you to take action to stop this unlawful supply of your books. Firstly, contact your publisher to see if it has already issued a takedown notice on your behalf or intends to do so.

If your publisher hasn’t already issued a takedown notice or directs you to issue one, we suggest contacting the website directly, requesting the immediate removal of your books from the site. You can contact via the Contact Us link on the website.  If you don’t receive a response, you may also try emailing

To issue a takedown notice, you don’t need to fill out a specific form but simply need to set out who you are and what material you wish to have removed from the site.

Here is a sample takedown notice
