If you are registered for PLR you recently received a survey about changes to the regulations that administer the PLR scheme. NZSA has been lobbying for change to the more outdated aspects of the PLR legislation for almost a decade, and it is fantastic to have some updates on the table this year.
Digital Lending Rights and Educational Lending Rights will require a change to the Act and are therefore not part of this regulatory review. Adding more money to the fund is also off the table this parliamentary term. However, DIA has agreed to update the PLR Regulations to address other changes NZSA has sought, with the goal of making the scheme more equitable for all writers.
NZSA’s Management Committee and PLRAG representatives have prepared this commentary, giving the pros and cons of the various options to help you understand the implications of options outlined in the survey.
