Please join us for Poetry on the Beach 2022, and write your own, original poem on the sand at Orewa Beach.
Poetry on the Beach is a wrap-up event for National Poetry Day, and will be held on Saturday 27th August 2022 at 12:30pm-1:30pm, at Moana Reserve, Orewa Beach, Auckland, New Zealand, followed by people’s choice prize draw and poem reading at Orewa Library (12 Moana Ave) at 2pm.
Your poem can be short or long, you can be creative with formatting and layout, and you are also welcome to decorate your poem with natural materials that are found in the beach environment. Let your imagination run wild!

There are also two other poetry related events being held in the area as part of National Poetry Day:
- Poetry at the Pub at Sugarloaf Waiwera Beach Bar Restaurant from 7pm to 9.15pm on Thursday August 25. Gold coin entry.
- Poetry on the Line at Ōrewa Library from 9am to 5pm on Friday August 26. Free.

Poetry at the Pub
Thursday, 25 August, 7.00–9.15pm Sugarloaf Bar, Waiwera
The usual marvellous mix of poetry reading (your own or someone else’s), and assorted poetry fun and prizes. This year we are also making space for a song writer to share their original lyrics in a song they perform. Coffee, wine, meals and bar food all available. if you would like to share a poem or a song. Gold coins to contribute to expenses.
Poetry on the Line
Friday, 26 August, 9.00am–5.00pm Orewa Library, 12 Moana Ave, Orewa
Bring along your printed poem on one A4 or smaller page to peg onto the line outside the Library for this free all day display. Decorate your poem with artwork or a frame to make it stand out. The poet (you or someone else) must be acknowledged. Poems accepted between 9.00am and 9.30am on Friday morning, or drop your page into the library the day before.
Poetry on the Beach

Come and write your own, original poem on the sand at Orewa Beach from 12.30 to 1.30pm followed by poem readings and prize draws at Orewa Library (12 Moana Ave) at 2pm. In addition, a
