Call for writers to engage with fashion history, mystery and a little dash of trickery

Broadgreen Historic House, which houses a significant textile and period costume collection, is calling for entries to the Secret Lives Short Story Competition.

Every dress has a story, and we want to read yours!

Write the story of one, or both, of these dresses. Who made them? Who wore them? Where were they worn? Who held them, danced with them, disrobed them…

Anne Kennedy and Rachael King, two of New Zealand’s most acclaimed authors, will judge the competition, which is open to all writers based in Aotearoa. There are more than $3,000 in prizes to be won.

Both fictional stories and creative nonfiction (personal/memoir/historical) stories are welcome. Stories should be written in English and be no longer than 1,500 words.

Entries close at midnight on 30 April, which is the end of Tuku22 Whakatū Heritage Month, a collection of community-focused events celebrating Whakatū Nelson’s unique and diverse cultural heritage.
