Tasmanian Writers’ Prize 2025

• The winning entry will receive a cash prize of $500.
• A selection of the best entries will be published in the Forty South Short Story Anthology 2025.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
• The prize is for short stories up to 3,000 words, having an island, or island-resonant, theme.

• Writers will be citizens of Australia or New Zealand or Australian permanent residents.
• Maximum of two entries per person.
• Entry fee of $20 per story entered.
• Each entry may be uploaded in electronic form to the Forty South website, at
www.fortysouth.com.au/tasmanian-writers-prize.
• Alternatively, you may enter your story/stories by posting a USB drive to Forty South Publishing,
PO Box 168, Lindisfarne TAS 7015. Posted entries need to include the form provided at the
bottom of the Terms and Conitions. Should you require any assistance, please feel free to contact

• Ensure your name does not appear anywhere in your manuscript.
• The file name of the Word document must be the title of the story.
• Indicate the word count on your manuscript.
• Provide a biography/statement (maximum 150 words) to be used if the entry is included in the
anthology. It is a condition of entry that successful writers’ names may be used
by Forty South Publishing for publicity purposes.
• Stories should be uploaded as Word documents (.doc/.docx format).
• Entrants must assert that entries are their own original work and that the stories have not been
previously published.
• The judging panel reserves the right not to award a prize and no correspondence will be
entered into.
• Employees of Forty South Publishing, their immediate family members and the judging panel are
not eligible to enter the competition.
Entries must be lodged by February 14, 2025
