Wellington Writers Walk announce new chair

October 2026

Pippa Werry is stepping down as Chair of the WWW committee which she has led since 2013, and been Chair since 2022.

Over those years she has led the negotiation, fundraising and eventually positioning the first plaque in te reo māori on the Walk, which happened several months ago. The WWW committee introduces the new Chair of the WWW committee, Tracy Farr.

Tracy will be taking up this role from 1 November 2026. Of course you already know her well! But here is a quick intro anyway to her in her new role as Chair of the WWW:

Tracy Farr is a writer who used to be a scientist. Her most recent novel, Wonderland, won the 2024 NZSA Laura Solomon Cuba Press Prize and was longlisted for the Jann Medlicott Acorn Prize for Fiction in the 2026 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. Her writing has been translated, published internationally, and adapted for radio and stage. A longtime fan of the Writers Walk, Tracy was at the launch in 2002 of the first eleven sculptures and in 2016, when commissioned by BBC Radio4 to write and record a Literary Postcard from New Zealand, she focused on Wellington Writers Walk. She has been a member of the  Writers Walk committee since 2024 and was involved in the planning for our latest sculpture and the first in te reo Māori, unveiled in June 2026.
