Opportunities
NZSA Programmes
Writers from all over New Zealand access our well respected professional development programmes and services. Our core programmes of Adult and Youth Mentorship for both writers and comic graphic novelists, CompleteMS (full manuscript assessment), and StartWrite (synopsis and chapter assessment to give key advice to writers developing new projects) provide writers with the opportunity to receive feedback, to take risks, to experiment and be innovative within a nurturing professional environment. This results in high-quality writing and publications that are published, purchased and read.
NZSA Awards, Grants and Fellowships
The NZ Society of Authors Te Puni Kaituhi o Aoteroa (PEN NZ) Inc offers a wide variety of awards and grants each year including the NZSA/CLNZ Research Grants and CLNZ Writer’s Award, The Lilian Ida Smith Award, the NZSA / Peter & Dianne Beatson Fellowship, the NZSA Laura Solomon Cuba Press Prize and the Michael Gifkins Text Prize for an unpublished novel.
Professional Development Events
NZSA runs a series of interactive web workshops and writer clinics and is developing a hub programme of ‘lesson’s to launch in 2021. At the completion of 10 modules in The Hub Project, authors willl receive a Certificate of Introduction to Writing and Publishing that they can list on their writer’s CV.
While COVID is rampant, NZSA has postponed its national biennial conference the National Writer’s Forum. In it’s place we now run an annual series of 7 NZSA Regional Roadshows, offering a one day programme of workshops and masterclasses around the business of writing and the development of aspects of craft.
