We share the sad news that Neville Peat, MNZM, died peacefully March 1 at Dunedin Hospital after a short illness, aged 78. He was an author, journalist, photographer and naturalist and had published more than 40 books covering history, landscape and nature. Home is an Island (2022) explored islands contributing to the character of New Zealand.
He was awarded a Member of the NZ Order of Merit, for services to conservation in 2018, and in 2024, won the Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Excellence, for outstanding contribution to non-fiction.
He was a member of NZSA for over 40 years.
