He tauira, ngā whakamaharatanga, me ngā pito kōrero mō te hauora, te tikanga, te mātauranga, te reo, te taiao, te meake o te Māori.

Hello to all writers who write in te reo..

A new collection of original Māori writing will be published in 2027. The title? Te Awa Pōkākā.

The editors? Witi Ihimaera and Vaughan Rapatahana. The target audience?

Young people in particular. After all, ‘let the young generation lead the world’.

Submissions are now open for short fiction and non-fiction pieces written in Māori. For example memoirs, and essays on health, culture, education, language, the environment, and the future of Māori.

Length – 1000 to 3000 words. With macrons.

Please include a short biography.

Closing date – April 30, 2026.
