Like a bit of friendly competition? Think your book group is pretty well read? Auteur House are running a special literary themed pub quiz with eight rounds of ten questions each, plus an additional list round and numerous spot prizes. NZ Children’s and YA Book Awards reviewed

The Waikato Children’s Literature Association will once again have a NZ Children’s and YA Book Awards review night and suggest winners. Students from Berkley Normal Middle School will talk about the Junior Fiction category and WCLA members will review the Picture Book, Non-Fiction, Young Adult, Illustration and New Book categories. Have a look at the list of finalists and come along to hear them discussed.

3.2.1. BLAST OFF… ! Join us for storytime featuring children’s books by New Zealand authors during Hamilton Book Month. Come and enjoy a hot coffee or hot chocolate on us. Illustrator Deborah Hinde will be reading a story and talking about her typical work day. Join her in a drawing activity using thumb prints.
Deborah Hinde has illustrated over 70 books, fiction and nonfiction. Her first picture book, A Kiwi Night Before Christmas (Scholastic NZ, 2003), is a New Zealand classic with a companion title scheduled for release later this year. She has illustrated another 34 books including the award-winning Te Reo Singalong series and more recently the best-selling children’s book for 2017, Moo and Moo and the Little Calf Too (Allen & Unwin, 2017). In 2018 Deborah received a Storylines Notable Book Award for illustrating The Spaghetti Giraffe (Flat Bed Press, 2017).
