This year’s Book Council Lecture will be given by beloved children’s author Joy Cowley at Te Papa on October 4.
In her warm and engaging talk The Power of Story, Joy will draw on a lifetime’s experience of inspiring children to read.
Entwining practical advice on how to spark a love for reading with her thoughts on how the power of story can inspire lifelong learning and critical thinking, she speaks to parents, educators and avid readers alike.
Book Council director Jo Cribb says this year’s lecture will be a special experience.
‘Joy will share with us the gift of her wisdom over decades of writing for children and young people. We thank her for taking the time to collect these thoughts and share them with us.’
The lecture will be published as a book. Copies of The Power of Story will be distributed free of charge to Book Council members. The lecture will also appear on the Book Council website after the event.
‘We are honoured that Joy will deliver her messages in person, but also that we’re able to produce a publication of her extended essay that will be enjoyed widely for years to come,’ says Jo.
This year’s lecture will be held at on October 4, at 5.30pm at Te Marae, Level 4, Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
